POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE:     Reading Specialist

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Must possess a Master’s Degree and be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement as a Reading Specialist
  • Have at least three years of successful Elementary classroom teaching experience
  • Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum development
  • Have experience and expertise in using technology in education, including the use of Google Drive for Instruction, collaboration, and course work
  • Have effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents/families, and administrative staff
  • Demonstrate the ability to be dependable and punctual

 

REPORTS TO:          Building Administration

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:           Teacher’s Work Calendar and benefits as defined in the Teacher’s negotiated agreement; these positions are being funded using CARES/ESSER funds during the term of time they are provided.

 

FLSA:                         Exempt

 

ESSENTIAL TASKS/JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct Instruction of Students – will provide direct instruction in the areas of Reading and Writing for identified groups and individual students
  • Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum
  • Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that support school division initiatives
  • Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs
  • Provide ongoing training and follow-up in the use of assessment tools
  • Participate in collaborative instructional planning
  • Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs
  • Participate in parent meetings, IEP meetings, etc. to provide instruction suggestions
  • Work collaboratively with the building administration to review data to develop and assist in building level professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Salary:  2022-2023 Salary Scale
